UCC Students represent Ireland at World University Rowing Championships

4 UCC Students represented Team Ireland at the World University Rowing Championships in Poznan, Poland from 2nd-4th September 2016. Aoife Feeley, David Synnott, Jake McCarthy and Selma Bounane did their college and country proud, performing well in a competition contested by Olympians and World Champions alike.


Aoife Feeley teamed up with Eimear Lambe, Siofra Bennett and Aileen Crowley of UCD to compete in the Women’s Coxless Four event at the championships. Following good performances throughout the weekend, Aoife finished in a very respectable 2nd place in the B-Final just behind a strong Swiss crew to finish 8th overall.


David Synnott and Jake McCarthy contested the Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls, a category in which they were the youngest crew of the field. Dave and Jake showed great determination in their B-Final to pass Canada in the closing stages of the race, finishing in 3rd behind Finland, meaning 9th overall.


Selma Bounane teamed up with Olivia Blundell of Queen’s University Belfast to compete in the Women’s Double Scull event. Selma’s performances improved race upon race to produce her best in the B-final, finishing in 3rd place behind France, giving her a position of 9th overall.
