UCCRC Athletes Representing Ireland.

Continuing on a strong tradition of UCCRC athletes representing Ireland, two UCC athletes have been selected to row internationally this summer.

Stephen O’Connor will be competing in the Men’s U23 Lightweight Quad at the U23 World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria this week. After an impressive 5th place finish in the same event in 2016, Stephen will have his eyes on a podium finish throughout this coming week. This is Stephen’s third year in a row representing Ireland at the U23 World Championships.

Ronan Byrne will be representing Ireland on 22nd July in Strathclyde, Scotland, at the Home International Regatta. Ronan will be reunited with his double partner for the 2016 Junior World Championships, Daire Lynch, to compete in the Men’s Senior Double. This duo placed 7th in the Junior World Championships so will certainly be contenders in Strathclyde.

This follows Aifric Keogh competing in the Women’s Pair in the second Rowing World Cup in Poland this past June.

Overall this strong representation of UCC on the international stage is a good indicator of the depth and strength of the squad at UCCRC, and looks set to continue far into the future.
