Women’s Four Impress at Erne Head of the River

A group of 31 from UCC Rowing Club travelled to Enniskillen, Northern Ireland last weekend to compete at the annual Erne Head of the River. Men’s Intermediate and Novice Eights with two Women’s Club Fours made the trip the day before in preparation for the most widely contested Head of the River of the season with crews from 5 universities among the 29 clubs competing.

The UCC A Women’s Club Four of Fiona O’Keeffe, Deirdre O’Sullivan, Aisling McDonald and Katie Nagle with Cox Rachel O’Leary came away with a convincing win in their category, a minute ahead of the nearest competitor. The B combination also put in a strong performance to finish in 3rd place.

The Men’s Intermediate Eight produced a good row to finish 4th, just two seconds off second place after a 20mins race. The Men’s Novice Eight had their first chance to challenge themselves against their future intervarsity opponents, finishing in a respectable 6th place.

Successful weekend for all involved and preparations continue for the University Championships in April!
