UCC Novices Shine at Irish Indoor Rowing Championships!
The newly recruited novice men and women put their new found skills to test as they raced over 1 kilometer in the UL Sports Arena on Saturday. First up were the novice women who showed their worth with Maria Coleman taking second and Ellen Desmond taking third, just behind NUIG’s Sorcha O’Donnell. The novice men took an impressive clean sweep with Shane O’Carroll clinching first over UCC crew mate Conor Nagle by just 0.3 of a second. Conor Lynch took third for UCC making the podium an all red and black affair. UCC U23 men didn’t fare as well with the best of the heavyweights, Ronan Byrne, coming in 8th place. In the lightweight U23 men’s category David Synnott and Stephen Murphy tied for 9th position. Katie Nagle took top spot out of the UCC U23 women with a time of 8:01.7, placing her 27th overall. A relatively successful start to the new year for UCCRC.
