UCCRC blow off cobwebs at Skibbereen Head of the River!

A light tail wind and flat water greeted the rowers as they took to the waters of the Marina, a far cry from years gone by. Taking full advantage of the exceptional conditions UCC rowers took away eight wins as well as fastest boat of the day for both the Mens and Womens categories.

The day started off well with Ronan Byrne taking the Mens Intermediate Scull. This first win was soon followed by Katie Nagle and Clodagh Scannell taking the Womens Club Pair. Head two saw the Mens Senior Four and Womens Club Eight win by comfortable margins with the latter taking fast boat of the day in the Womens catergory. A UCC/Shandon composite took the win in the Mens Senior Quad over another UCC/Skibbereen composite.

Deirdre O’Sullivan took the win in the Womens Club Scull in a split decsion with Lee Valley sculler O’Mahoney. Head four saw the UCC Men’s Senior Eight take the win and the title as fastest boat of the day. The Womens Club Four took the final win of the day bringing the tally to eight wins.

All in all a very successful weekend for UCCRC on the river Lee. Hopefully the first of many!
