UCCRC members shine at Under-23 World Rowing Championships

UCC Sport Scholar Stephen O’Connor and Quercus Scholar Jack Casey returned to Ireland with results to proud of from the Under-23 World Rowing Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands held between 21st and 28th August 2016.


Following their 1st place finish in the Elite Quadruple Scull category at London Metropolitan Regatta, Stephen O’Connor in his Irish Lightweight Men’s Quadruple Scull lived up to the high expectations reaching the A-Final of the highly competitive event in Rotterdam. Along with crewmates Fintan McCarthy of Skibbereen RC, Colm Hennessy of Shandon BC and Shane O’Connell of UCD BC, Stephen had a fantastic performance to finish 5th on the World Stage!


Quercus Scholar Jack Casey of the Irish Men’s Heavyweight Quadruple Scull produced strong performances throughout the competition, reaching the B-final in a strong field. Teaming up with Dan Buckley of NUIG BC, Sam McKeown of Portadown BC and Patrick Boomer of ULBC, Jack carried out another good performance to finish 6th meaning a ranking of 12th overall.
