Victory for UCCRC at Indoors
This Munster Provincial Irish indoor rowing competition was held on Saturday 21st in University of Limerick Sport Centre.
The event was the first big test for UCCRC with both our Senior ,Intermediate and Novice rowers all competing.
This was the Novice team firstĀ ever rowing competition,and they took it all in their stride.
Success was found in all racing categories entered by the club:
Early in the day Deirdre Keena came 5th in the Women’s Freshers 1k, a great accomplishment for her first ever rowing competition!!
Next was Alex Jager and Tom Trench coming 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Men’s Freshers 1k (Pictured Below)
A great performance was put in by our Men’s intermediate Team in the Men’s Under 23 2k with Jack Casey securing 2nd place, David Keohane in 3rd, Brian Keohane in a close 5th and Tomas Power in 6th place.(Pictured Below)
The Women also put memorable efforts with Deirdre O’Sullivan coming in a strong 2nd place with the other girls not tailing too far behind.(Pictured Below)
David Synnott competed in the Lightweight Men Under 23 coming in 4th.
The Men also put in a great work in the Relay teams and despite their name (Team Garden Hose 2.0) secured a strong 1st place in the Men’s Student Relay with an effort noticed by all.The Team included David Keohane,Brian Keohane,Tomas Power and Neil McSwiney(Pictured Below)
The club went out on a high with the last race of the day being the Women’s Relay Teams where Deirdre O’Sullivan,Linda Murphy, Katie Nagle and Clodagh Scannell came first in the Women’s Open Relay.
Overall the Club had a brilliant day out especially with the novices representing the club.It showed how big the club has grown in the past year and how exciting the future year in competition is going to be.The club is straight back to training again and is looking forward to competing in Mucross Head on the 5th.
